converting back a doc created from prn to prn

After printing to a file as the result I got 2 prn-files (the first and the last page of the printed document - 60 pages), a doc-file (8 MB) and rtf-File (12 MB), both containing only signs. My friend was doing it, so I don't know what exactly happened, but I suppose that she converted the prn-file with the middle part of the document to doc - can I convert it back to prn ??

Alice,

You can convert a doc file to a prn by opening it and printing to file.

I tried it, but the outcome are 2.452 pages with these funny signs :( I also tried to rename the doc-file (simply changed the extension to .prn) but then it wasn't printed at all (although it was shown in the printer control panel as printed).

Did the doc file open ok?

You can't change a file type just by changing it's extension, the content of the file is different.

You also need to be wary about opening the file, if you open and save a .prn file in Word for instance it will be corrupted and will not work.

Finally you need to make sure the driver you are using is compatible with the printer, not all prn files are the same.

I thought so that simply changing the file extension would be to easy ;) The drivers are ok, but as said I don't know exactly how the files were created - so if the outcome were .doc and .rtf files the most probable answer is, that my friend opened and saved a .prn file in Word and it is now lost forever ??
